SPI CODESTo further the Drink Responsibly Campaign, we educated the public about SPI Codes with posters. SPI Codes were created in 1988 to classify the different types of plastic used in most consumer items and to allow consumers and recyclers to properly dispose of the different plastics.
The Truth Behind the Arrows
Don't be Fooled! These symbols are a part of the Society of Plastics Industry (SPI) Coding System. They only say what plastic is used, not whether or not the item is recyclable. Illinois requires these codes on bottles and rigid containers between 8 ounces and 5 gallons.
